What’s A Fish Boil?

We’ve had a Low Country boil several times before. It’s a traditional dish in the low country of Georgia, Louisiana and South Carolina—a variety of shellfish, potatoes and corn are thrown into a pot with water and seasonings and cooked until done, then served. And devoured. Quickly. Because it’s delicious. So, we thought we knew … Continue reading »

Toyota Corolla Elevated Event 2014

Several years ago, when I was still teaching, I was invited to be part of a group of educators participating in a series of leadership building events. We did all kind of leaderish activities to make us better leaders although, frankly, I was in it for the days off school and the free lunches which were, … Continue reading »

Photo Friday: Bellingrath Gardens, Mobile, Alabama

We visited Bellingrath Gardens in the springtime and the incredible proliferation and variety of flowers is wonderful. Tom got this reflection photo which shows how truly amazing the garden can be. Pin It

Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home in Arizona is an amazing place and I love the way Tom caught the two triangles in this picture of the house and pool. Pin It

Photo Friday: Pirate Wenches on Tybee Island, Georgia

Last fall, we went to the annual Tybee Island, Georgia Pirate Fest and had a ball. Just about everyone on the small island got into the pirate spirit and we saw lots of people dressed up. Three scurvy wenches caught Tom’s photographer eye.

Sweet Savannah Girlfriend Getaway

You will notice the Spanish moss first. Drive into the heart of this lovely Southern city and you might catch glimpses of the busy Savannah River, the fantastically gorgeous, sprawling historic homes or the lovely, park-like squares scattered throughout the city but it’s the Spanish moss that tells you that you have truly arrived in … Continue reading »

Beginner’s Guide to Snowshoeing

Remember in the Ghostbusters movie, when they emphasized the importance of not crossing streams? It’s the exact same thing with snowshoeing. Only it’s your snowshoes you don’t want to cross when walking or turning—which could possibly result in you plummeting into the fluffy snow and floundering there like a rather clumsy bear. Not that this … Continue reading »

Winter Wonderland Weekend in Door County, Wisconsin

As we drove through Illinois towards Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago, we were encouraged to see the first signs of snow on the ground.  Just traces of white here and there, but we had just spent several days in Chicago with no snow, much to our disappointment, and we were concerned that our … Continue reading »

The Oar House, Dahlonega, Georgia

We almost missed The Oar House. Tucked away on a mountainside in Dahlonega, Georgia overlooking a scenic river, this fabulous place is a little hidden if you don’t watch carefully for the sign. And we didn’t believe our GPS when it clearly told us where the restaurant was located. It was getting dark, we were … Continue reading »
