Front Door to the Hotel
So, we decided to experience a staycation for the first time.
A “staycation” is a getaway where you don’t go far; usually just stay in your same city where you live. Although Lexington, Kentucky is our hometown and attracts plenty of tourists from all over the world, we had sort of taken it for granted. I had come to Lexington to attend the University of Kentucky many moons ago and Tom was a long time resident so after meeting, falling in love, and getting married, we never considered moving anywhere else. We had our kids, life moved on, and we finally settled in a roomy and comfortable house after we both retired from our jobs. Although I had lived in Lexington most of my adult life, I had always loved traveling and had seen most of the world but finally got Tom to fall I love with traveling as well. I wrote about our travels and he took the many photos that went along with my articles so we settled into a new way of life once our kids moved out, get married and settled down, and began to have kids of their own.

We vaguely knew there was a local hotel in downtown Lexington but had never actually seen it as it was tucked away on a side street. The Gratz Park Inn, hidden away on Second Street right by historic Gratz Park, the historic hotel is nestled in the heart of horse country and bourbon county. They are the only small boutique hotel located in Lexington’s Historic District and within walking distance to downtown Lexington. Offering historic charm and comfort, the hotel offers a rich combination of the past combined with modern comforts.

Our room was quite ready yet so we relaxing outside and waited for them to let us know it was ready.

Finally, they called us in and escorted us up to our luxurious and comfortable room. We had no idea what to expect but quite literally blown away by the luxury and comfort of our room. They had everything from a mansion room with a huge bathroom to smaller but still comfortable rooms with two beds.

There’s also plenty of access by walking to local sites, shopping, bars and entertainment, and great restaurants. We spent quite a bit of time wandering around town, just enjoying all the sights. We hit up several of the area restaurants but one of our favorite meals was at the restaurant in the hotel.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay at the Gratz Park Inn and would love to go back and spend a few more days there!
