The Inn at Eagle Mountain, Scottsdale, AZ

Posted by on February 21, 2012

Check out my review of this location on Examiner.com as well HERE.

I stretched out my legs so my toes could get even closer to the fire in the fireplace which was crackling merrily and busily warming up my frigid toes. As warmth spread through my icy feet, I looked around at the large and spacious suite we had settled in at the beautiful Inn at Eagle Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona and felt very, very happy that we had made the choice to stay here first on our road trip of Arizona.

Warming my toes!

We flew into Phoenix, picked up our rental car – which, incidentally, we traded in the next day for a bigger car. A two-week road trip turned out not to be a good time to be a tightwad. Our two suitcases wouldn’t even fit in the trunk and, since the original car had only two doors, we would have been fighting to get that second suitcase in the backseat for the whole two weeks. No thanks. After picking up our (tiny) car, we turned on our Garmin GPS and headed to the Inn at Eagle Mountain. This was the first time we had traveled with a GPS and we will never take another road trip without one – it has been absolutely invaluable and I recommend either bringing one or getting one from the rental car company.

As soon as we arrived in Phoenix, we began marveling at how incredibly different the landscape was from the green rolling pastures of our native Lexington, Kentucky. Shades of brown, gold and tan sand and rock with eerily unearthly looking cactus and other desert plants create an environment unlike anything we have ever seen. It’s very different but also very beautiful. We headed out of Phoenix towards Scottsdale, through the Sonoran desert, and then up into the community of Fountain Hills, where the Inn is located. It’s only about 40 minutes from the Phoenix airport, so it was an easy drive. We drove up into the lovely desert landscape of the Inn and pulled up in front of the Southwest styled lobby.

You know you have arrived in the Southwest!

The Inn sits beside a gorgeous, emerald green golf course and a lovely lake which reflects the incredibly blue Arizona sky during the day and the warm, welcoming lights of the Inn at night.

Beautiful golf course!

Watch out for those golf balls!

After a friendly welcome at the front desk – and an offer to bring us a bucket of ice, which we took advantage of and they delivered immediately – we headed back to our suite. The Inn offers several suite choices from a King Mini Suite to several interesting themed suites. I can personally recommend the two-queen bedroom with a cozy kiva gas fireplace, handy sitting area for two, a large whirlpool jacuzzi and wonderful bath amenities.

Dual Queen Suite.

Beautiful bathroom!

You will also have a roomy closet, coffee maker, a refrigerators and free wireless Internet access. The suites are beautifully designed in a Southwestern motif which reflects the stark and unusual beauty of the surrounding Sonoran desert. Our suite was really large with two comfy upholstered chairs in front of the fireplace. I wasn’t sure how to turn the fireplace on but picked up the remote and whooshed it on with no problem. Then blissfully warmed my toes. After I was sufficiently warmed, I realized I had been left some gifts. The Inn at Eagle Mountain kindly left us a bottle of wine and Megan Neighbor with the Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau had left me a bag of goodies which included a fridge magnet – one of my favorite things and something I always buy – thanks, Megan!

How nice is that!

If you are visiting in the spring or summer or even on a warm winter day, you can cool off from the desert heat in the outdoor pool and Jacuzzi which overlook the 18th Fairway of Eagle Mountain.

Gorgeous pool!

When it’s a bit cooler,  sit in the fireplace alcove by the pool terrace and just enjoy the view.

Incredible views surround you.

Seriously, incredible views!

If you would rather play golf than enjoy the view, The Inn at Eagle Mountain is the perfect golfer’s retreat. Set up a tee time up to 90 days in advance at one of the top courses in Scottsdale, the Golf Club at Eagle Mountain. And if you would rather just relax, plan an indulgent spa treatment at the nearby spa or schedule a massage right in your suite. A massage and room service dinner in your suite in front of the fireplace is my idea of heaven!

Cactus are everywhere!

The Inn at Eagle Mountain offers several different packages which include some great rates on getaways offering a variety of activities. When you are ready to get away from your comfortable home away from home at the Inn, Scottsdale and Phoenix are both close by with plenty of shopping, dining and sightseeing options. Both cities are known as perfect vacation spots because of their more than 300 days of glorious sunlight a year. You will find an unlimited array of activities to keep you busy from morning till night. Take in incredible views of the desert from a hot air balloon or helicopter, take a hike, or float down the Salt River on a raft. You can also kayak on Saguaro Lake, take a bike ride, or take a Jeep for an off-road tour through the desert.

We arrived after the Grille at the Eagle Mountain Golf Club had closed, so we just ran out and got cheeseburgers since there are plenty of restaurants close by.  After dinner and a little relaxing in our suite, we settled in for a quiet and peaceful night’s sleep in the pillow-soft beds, then headed out the next morning on a day of adventures in the area. We loved our visit to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Tailesin West, (more about that soon) and we were treated to a perfectly wonderful lunch at Cibo, a darling little neighborhood bistro in Phoenix by the lovely Trish Hendrickson of the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau – thanks Trish! Try one of their delicious sandwiches and you will not be disappointed.

You will not run out of things to do in this area and, after a long day of sightseeing and touring, you will be so glad to return to your comfy suite and warm your toes in front of your very own fireplace at the Inn at Eagle Mountain – I know we were!

In closing, here’s a video to inspire you to visit!

Full disclosure: Our accommodations were provided by the Inn at Eagle Mountain,  but as always, I will share my honest opinion about any travel experiences I have.
